ADJECTIVES

Em inglês, o adjetivo flexiona-se apenas em grau, não sofrendo alteração do gênero ou de número. A posição do adjetivo é sempre antes do substantivo.

DEGREES OF COMPARATION
Comparative of Equality – tão.......Quanto! como
Formação:
as + adjetivo + as (sentença afirmativa) so + adjetivo + as (sentença afirmativa)
Ex.:Fred is as intelligent as George. I'm as tall as my brother.
Esta regra serve para fazer o comparativo de igualdade de qualquer adjetivo, sem exceção.
Ex.: Betty is as beautiful as her sister.I'm not so tall as my father.

SUPERIORITY

Comparative of Superiority – mais.......que Formação:1. Para adjetivo de uma sílaba ou duas: Adjetivo + er + than Exs.:Helen is younger than Sheila.This car is faster than yours. I am stronger than you.

Obs. happy / fat / large - happier than / fatter than / larger than
2. Para adjetivos de três ou mais sílabas more + adjetivo + than
Ex.:Lesson ten is more important than lesson nine.
Obs.: famous / charming / careful / tired / quickly / expensive (com essas terminações o adjetivo é considerado longo)
Para dar maior intensidade, algumas expressões são usadas com o comparativo de superioridade, tais como: much, far, lot, a good deal, a great deal (todos significando muito) a bit (significando um pouco).
Exs.: Suzane is much more beautiful than Sally.This car is a bit cheaper than mine. He seems to be a bit stronger than hhis brother.

Superlative
1) Superlative of Superiority – o (a) mais
Formação:Para adjetivos de uma ou duas silabas the + adjetivo + est
Exs.: He is the tallest boy in his family. Martha is the smartest girl that I know.
Obs.:
easy – easier than – the easiesthot – hotter than – the hottest wide – wider than – the widest
2. Para adjetivos de três ou mais sílabas the most + adjetivo
Exs.: Sara is the most beautiful girl in her family. “Gone with the wind” is one of the most popular films of all times.

2) Superlative of inferiority - o (a) menos
Formação : the least ... in the , of all
Exemplos:
This is the least exercise of all
Big John is the least intelligent boy in the class.

1. Para adjetivos de uma ou duas sílabas
Adjetivo + er + and + adjetivo + er
Ex.:That boy is getting fatter and fatter
2. Para adjetivos de três sílabas ou mais.
more and more + adjetivo
Ex.: She's becoming more and more intelligent.
